TWO Polesworth girls are celebrating a miracle milestone this week – for it is 10 years since they were born, each weighing less than a bag of sugar.

Paige and Jordan Gallett are two of triplets. Sadly, their sister Toni died at just five-and-a-half weeks, but they beat all the odds to grow into two lively, happy girls.

Mum Sharon, aged 39,was just six months pregnant when she went into labour with the triplets, giving birth to Toni (1lb 9oz), Paige (1lb 9oz) and Jordan who weighed just 1lb 6oz.

The two surviving triplets were featured in the Herald on their first birthday back in 2000, in a story charting their remarkable progress against all odds.

Sharon said: "The pregnancy went well until six months when Paige developed an infection which started me in labour. The odds on any of the girls surviving were not good – it was touch and go for a while, it was a real rollercoaster ride.

"It was terribly sad to lose Toni, but we know how lucky we are to have Paige and Jordan," she added. Despite Toni's sad death, Sharon and husband Bob were determined their two remaining daughters would know all about their sister.

"We always remember Toni and the girls always come to the churchyard, or 'Toni's garden' as we call it, and place flowers there. It's always sad on the anniversary of her death – but of course very happy on their birthdays," said Sharon.

Jordan does suffer some health problems. She has cerebral palsy and has had many operations. Paige is in good health. Both girls attend Birchwood Primary School in Polesworth.

Sharon added: "Jordan is such a brave girl, she takes it all in her stride and Paige does mother her a little. They are such good friends and they are both doing really well."

Paige and Jordan enjoyed a 'makeover' birthday party with their friends to mark their special day – and this weekend Jordan is to go to Florida for a much-deserved holiday with Dreamflight – a charity which provides once-in-a-lifetime holidays for ill children.
