Bird draws on his all-round skills in Coleshill salvage job

HANDSWORTH CC (240-9) drew with COLESHILL CC FIRST XI (172-6)

LEE Bird bagged four wickets but Coleshill had to settle for a losing draw from their clash with Handsworth on Monday.

Handsworth posted 240-9 from their allotted 55 overs. Their innings owed much to Renrick Hooper (67) and Anton Johnson (54) who put on 95 for the second wicket.

Onias Bascome (22), Clifton Folkes (21) and Ernie Ramsay (27no) made contributions while Bird claimed 4-66 for Coleshill.

Phil Trilloe and Kevin Crotty secured two wickets each.

Coleshill started well in reply as Lee Craig (38) and Carl Bland (18) put on 45 for the first wicket.

However, they slipped from 45-0 to 96-5 with Kenrick Smith claiming 3-50.

Paul Kavanagh (31no) and Bird (27no) guided Coleshill to the losing draw as they finished on 172-6 from their 55 overs.

COLESHILL CC FIRST XI (65) lost to BREWOOD (69-2) by eight wickets

COLESHILL suffered a humbling defeat at the hands of Brewood on Saturday.

Having lost the toss, Coleshill were put into bat and got off to a disastrous start as they slumped to 1-2 with Lee Craig (1) and Carl Bland (0) dismissed.

Wickets tumbled at regular intervals as only two Coleshill batsmen made it into double figures.

Pete Magafas was out for 10 while Martin Clifford finished unbeaten on 33 as Coleshill were bowled out for just 65.

Chris Guest finished with figures of 4-24 while Chris Pearce (3-7) and Tim Friend (2-21) also ripped through the Coleshill innings.

Brewood lost two wickets in their reply but eased home in less than six overs thanks to the efforts of Bruce Thomason (54) and William Marsh (11no).

Coleshill seconds also slumped to an eight-wicket defeat on Saturday.

They were bowled out for just 83 against Bromsgrove with Len Wallace (20) and Umang Anand (17) top scoring.

Josh Searle claimed 6-20 for Bromsgrove.

James Ganderton (58no) and Will Bowen (16no) ensured Bromsgrove eased home with the minimum of fuss.

Adam Wilkes and John Price claimed the only wickets to fall.

Coleshill seconds were also in action on Monday as they faced Handsworth in Division 2A (South).

Coleshill endured a torrid time in the field as Handsworth piled on the runs.

They lost Jay Patel (0) early on but finished on 267-2 from their 50 overs with Dwayne Arthurton hitting an unbeaten 109.

He received fine support from Karem Sohal (82) and Oronde Bascome (42no).

Coleshill lost Anthony Baker (6) early on but Len Wallace (36) and Adam Wilkes (36) led a recovery.

However, once they had been dismissed, only Umang Anand (16) reached double figures as Coleshill were bowled out for 133. Zakhir Ahmed claimed 5-20.
