Blind dog put on eBay to raise cash
A BLIND dog which was found abandoned has been rescued by a Dordon woman – and had an eye operation funded by generous eBay users.
Snowy, a white terrier, has been given a caring new home by Alison Little who put an appeal on the popular internet auction website.
And after putting the dog 'on sale' for £1 she sold him 590 times – raising £590 in donations.
Alison, who carries out voluntary work for dog rescue charity The Little Dog Rescue, took care of the pet in December.
Alison said: "He was blind and in pain, having been picked up by the dog warden wandering about on his own. It was obvious he'd been thrown out."
The dog was rushed to the vets where an emergency operation was carried out to remove one badly infected eye.
"I took him home to foster while he got better from his operation before he'd be well enough to undergo tests to find out the cause as it was affecting both eyes," Alison continued.
"A round trip of 200 miles a few weeks later to an eye specialist confirmed his problems were due to glaucoma and the pain was building in the remaining eye, in which he was already blind."
It was then during Snowy's treatment that it was decided to advertise him on the charity section of the eBay website.
"We had to keep re-listing him because more people wanted to donate," Alison said.
The donations enabled another operation to have the dog's second eye removed.
Alison said the dog was now recovering at home.
"He's now had stitches out and is out and about enjoying life," she said.
"Due to everything he's gone through and the fact he's lived here several weeks, where he's learned the layout of the house and garden, it's been decided it would be fairest for Snowy to remain here as a permanent foster for the rest of his days, where he'll get all the support and back up from the rescue charity he'll ever need."
She added: "I also wanted to raise awareness of small rescue charities like ours where every penny donated goes to saving and treating dogs.
"We don't have kennels, and all dogs in our care are fostered in people's own homes.
"We have a presence in the Tamworth area and lots of little dogs all in need of loving homes."
Alison continued: "Snowy is becoming well-known around my area, in his little coat warning people he is blind which was very kindly sent by an anonymous person to make his life easier.
"His quality of life is excellent; he runs off-lead with my dogs who wear bells on their collars so he always knows where they are.
"Everywhere I take him he gets attention when people see his coat then spot he doesn't have any eyes – and everybody wants to know his story."
