"This is a great honour. I have been at Sheffield before for a training weekend in preparation for the England v Ireland match.

"I know that there are strong connections with Team GB and the Tamworth gym.

"Current Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua and Luke Campbell both trained at The CornerPost Gym [in Tamworth] when they were boxing in the GB Games for England and look where they've got.

"However, I need to keep my feet on the ground and work harder than anyone else.

"This year I'm old enough to enter the CYPS National Championship as well as the juniors, so it's a big year for me."

Hatton is supported by Tamworth Borough Council's Gifted and Talented Programme, which helped towards training and travel costs.

Tamworth female boxer Taylor Hathaway was invited to attend GB Talent identification trials in Manchester last Sunday.

Selection was made on the fact that she was unbeaten and showing great promise. She hopes for follow in the footsteps of Nicola Adams and make the GB team for Rio.

The Tamworth squad have been working hard over the summer months in readiness for their next boxing dinner at Drayton Manor.

The event will take place on Friday, October 12.

Tickets are now available from the club, priced at £37.50. Call 01827 314111 for more information.

The move to the new gym, at St Johns, is now planned for October 20.
