Boxing show was a 'fantastic night'
TAMWORTH ABC head coach Alan Keast declared his club's boxing show at Glascote Working Men's club as "one of the best ever".
Tamworth staged 11 bouts on Friday night, all featuring boxers from the Amington-based club, with a number making their debuts.
The evening started with three skills bouts, as Tamworth's Lewis Pritchard, Ellis Hadland and Daniel Demoll faced three opponents from Aston ABC.
Keast said: "All of the lads boxed really well and the crowd totally enjoyed the three fights.
"It was a great experience for them all and a big part of their development.
"They will have learnt a lot from the night
Tamworth's Karan Ram was next up against S Buckley, from Derby, and a skilful, close fight went the way of Buckley.
Aniel Vilkhou was next up, against Tenbury's Robbie Farrar, and a well-fought bout was unanimously awarded to the Tamworth boxer, whose straighter shots caught the eye of the judges.
Ryan Wilson was next into the ring and made it three wins in a row as he defeated J Husby, from Derby.
The 14-year-old controlled the fight from start to finish and Husby had no answer.
Oliver Mansfield was next into the ring against S Smith, from Chesterfield, and it was the Tamworth boxer who started the more positively.
He won the first round and was solid in the second, but tiredness crept into Mansfield and he lost out on a majority decision.
Ash Henry faced Chesterfield's P Matthews and the Tamworth boxer made a great start, dominating the first round.
However, the second and third rounds were tighter, but Henry had done enough to win.
Ryan Games faced Stoke City's Eshan Mirza in the ninth fight of the night and a technical bout went the latter's way.
Tamworth's Pete Spencer was in explosive form as he forced the referee to stop his fight with Stoke's M Booth after just 30 seconds.
Top of the bill was Sian Hemmings and she produced a fine performance before losing on points to Newdigate's Samantha Batty.
Keast said: "It was a fantastic night. The crowd were phenomenal and all the boxers were well supported.
"I would go as far as to say it was as good a show as we have ever staged."
Meanwhile, Tamworth hosted an England training camp last weekend.
Members of the England Amateur Squad, who are set to fight in Germany next week, made use of the facilities in Sandy Way.
The squad are set to return to Tamworth again in the near future.
