Charity groups across the town – from the Tame Community First Responders to the arts group staging The Wall musical – have received more than £5,000 from Tamworth Borough Council.

Ten groups have each been awarded grants of up to £1,000 from two council funds and will help organisations develop and provide services for the residents of Tamworth.

The latest grants are:

•    £645 towards advanced blue light driving training and behavioural training for the Tame Community First Responders.

•    £1,000 for Tamworth District Scouts and Guides to fund the production of their spectacular 'Reach For the Stars' Gang Show.

•    £900 for Fired Up Theatre toward the cost of staging The Wall project – Tamworth's biggest-ever community arts project, based on Pink Floyd's rock opus The Wall.

•    £190 for Pastorm towards the cost of producing a collaborative book on the history and memories of old Tamworth.

•    £500 towards the cost of a four-day camp at Beaudesert for the 1st Glascote Scouts.

•    £383 towards the cost of a digital camera, staff uniforms, ID badges and hygiene training for Pennymoor Youth Club.

•    £200 to help fund the running costs of Lichfield & District Live at Home, which helps to care for people in their own homes.

•    £426 for equipment for the Town Wall Conservation Group to help them with their ongoing project to restore and improve the wildlife habitat at Town Wall in Wilnecote.

•    £300 for a portable PA system for the Step Forward Stroke Group.

•    £500 to help Tamworth Arts Club pay for the cost of accompanists for the musical theatre competition.

Cllr Rob Pritchard, Chairman of the Cabinet Grants Committee, said: "All these groups are doing their bit to help make Tamworth a better place. They offer vital help and assistance to the people of the borough, run community events, arts events or community facilities.

"I am proud and delighted that Tamworth Borough Council is able to help them through these grants. Tamworth is such a great place and we want to support everyone helping make it that much greater."

Grants are available to community groups and voluntary organisations which run in the borough to allow them to develop and continue to provide their vital services. To apply for a grant or for more information on the scheme, contact Karen Clancy at Tamworth Borough Council on 01827 709565.
