TAMWORTH residents whose bins were not collected due to treacherous weather will have some of their waste removed next week.

Many bin collections were disrupted earlier this week, with Tamworth Borough Council blaming icy conditions, along with the weight of the trucks and a high number of parked cars on local streets, for making conditions unsafe.

  1. Some bin collections will take place next week following the treacherous weather.

Now a revised bin collection timetable has been released as part of a "catch-up plan" on waste collections.

However, green and blue bins are not set to be emptied until the week of Monday, February 4.

    “This is unacceptable.

I only missed one day of work, and I have a 112 mile round trip to do!

The snow has now gone - TBC should be making EVERY effort to get ALL missed bins cleared this week.

I'm tmepted to drop the black bin bags that won't fit in my bin (which is full) at the doorstep of Marmion House - they can put them in their bins!

Yet another case of TBC not looking after the residents who pay their wages!”

“Finally got post today, bins can't be too far behind ... Unless we get another massive 1cm of snow.

Seriously though, we live on a hill which is never gritted, tantalisingly we can see the main road, sadly for a week we couldn't get to it, even on foot, as the pavements were like glass.”

“Abominate, I agree entirely. I have lived, and worked in Tamworth for fifty years. I can remember times when all the estate roads were gritted, and mounds of grit were left for the use of residents who came across local areas that needed it. We used to have a very obliging manager in charge of the highways department, who would turn out a gritter at any time of the day or night if they had complaints of slippery surfaces.

I have a son and daughter in law who live in Canada. They are constantly telling me that nothing stops there purely because of snowfall, and freezing conditions. There are smaller vehicles that cover the areas that cannot be accessed by the larger spreaders.”

“It is amazing how Scandinavian countries continue to function through weeks- even months of deep snow, yet a few inches and the U.K. grinds to a halt.

I know councils and government will say it is not frequent enough, nor long-lasting enough to justify, but why is there no forward planning? Placing of grit bins and manual gritting machines, with the agreement of residents to keep pavements clear, smaller gritting vehicles to access minor roads would be a help. The cost would, I am sure be offset by the country continuing to work and function.”
