DOSTHILL COLTS RESERVES 1 ASTON 2

DOSTHILL'S run of bad luck continued as they were edged out of a closely-fought game on Saturday.

Colts enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half but despite four or five half chances struggled to really test the Aston keeper.

The most controversial moment of the first half saw appeals for a penalty turned down when Steve Nightingale appeared to be held back.

The game opened up in the second half and Aston took the lead with a close-range effort.

Dosthill responded almost immediately as Alex Charlton stroked the ball home from the edge of the area.

The key moment came on the hour mark when Dosthill's Jon Lee was sent clear but his effort was blocked and Aston counter-attacked, scoring what proved the decisive goal.

Dosthill responded well and pushed forward. Dale Taylor went closest with a lob while Dan Pitt sent a volley screaming past the upright.

Pitt then burst down the right, cut across the last defender inside the area and appeared to be brought down, but the referee ignored calls for a penalty.

DOSTHILL emerged as impressive winners of their local derby with Coton Green on Monday.

Colts dominated the game from start to finish and were full value for the three points.

Simon Rowley's long ball ran into the path of Alex Charlton, who raced forward and coolly lobbed home.

They doubled their lead on half-time when Tom Howard crossed to the far post and, although Daniel Pollitt's header was cleared off the line, Charlton guided the ball home when it was returned into the box.

Ten minutes into the second half, Steve Nightingale's long throw was directed into the net by Craig Fellows with a deft flick of his head.

Dosthill were then awarded a free-kick on the right-hand side and Jon Farley delivered a fine cross which Jon Lee headed into the corner to make it 4-0.

Lee smashed another effort against the foot of the post before Coton pulled back a consolation late on when Brett Dalton went on a good solo run and slotted home.
