Entrants urged in Tamworth charity run
PEOPLE in Tamworth are being urged to go that extra mile for charity when a sporting event returns to the town next month.
The Sport Relief Mile is back for 2010 with the Castle Grounds hosting a run on March 21.
"The Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Tamworth is here and it's your time to shine," explained Councillor Jeremy Oates, deputy leader of Tamworth Borough Council.
"From teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there's something for everyone on the big day – whether you do one, three or six miles.
"Best of all, the money you raise by getting sponsored will be used to transform lives forever.
"So come on Tamworth, rise to the challenge!"
Tammies are being called on to show their support by entering now at www.sportrelief.com.
The six-mile run sets off at 11am, but there are two smaller runs of three miles and one mile.
The three-mile run starts at noon and the one-mile events start at 1pm and 2pm.
Sport Relief has a history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things to rise to the challenge.
In 2006 David Walliams completed his astonishing swim across the English Channel and in 2008 Adrian Chiles and Alan Shearer cycled 335 miles from Newcastle to London. This summer Eddie Izzard ran an amazing 43 marathons in 51 days around the UK.
The Sport Relief Weekend takes place from Friday, March 19 to Sunday, March 21.
