COTON Green boss Jamie Dix has appointed former Lambs player Stuart Weir as his new assistant.

Weir, a former Stoke City apprentice, made two first team appearances for the Lambs in the 1992-93 season under Sammy Chung.

He was also a regular for the Lambs reserves until his career was curtailed by injury.

He went onto play under Ron Tranter at Bolehall Swifts and has been involved with teams in the Tamworth Sunday and junior football leagues.

"Stuart has a lot of football experience, including working under Sammy Chung at Tamworth," said Dix.

"That experience and the football knowledge that he has could be really invaluable to me.

"It will only benefit Coton Green having someone like him around and I think he can be a big asset in the dressing room.

"He has a lot of knowledge of youth football, too, and that's a big part of our plans here.

"We have a young squad in place and we want to develop the players that we have at the club.

"I think Stuart can help us with that.

"He will be an important coach for us. He knows the game and can help us raise the profile of the club."

Coton Green are without a first-team game in Midland Combination One this weekend but face a big local derby with Polesworth in the Fazeley Charity Cup the following weekend.

"We will try and keep the players ticking over as best possible," Dix said.

"A few might play for the reserves this weekend, although it wouldn't be fair to include them all.

"It will be an important game for us next weekend.

"We are really keen to have a strong finish this season.

"A good end to the league season and some silverware would represent a great end to the campaign for us.

"I see know reason why we can't finish well.

"The players here are a tight-knit bunch, enjoying their football, and there's a positive vibe about the place.

"Things are going well and hopefully we can push on."
