Good family and friends are key to long life says Ivy, 100
SPRIGHTLY centenarian Ivy Siggee celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends – and a bouquet of flowers from her 102-year-old cousin.
Ivy, who lives in Kingsbury with her daughter Irene, had her milestone birthday on Sunday, June 20, and has had a steady stream of friends, family and well-wishers popping round to share her celebrations.
Born in Hockley, Tamworth, in 1910, Ivy later lived in Belgrave before moving to Kingsbury with her late husband Percy as the Second World War broke out in September 1939.
She worked at Midland Red in Tamworth and later as a home help. She was also often called out by local nurse Greenhill to help out delivering babies in the area.
Grandaughter Carol Marven said: " Gran is so positive and upbeat. She likes a laugh and people like to be with her because she cheers them up.
"She's unbelieveable for her age. She is in good health and only takes one tablet a day. She has had so many visitors, it has been lovely."
Ivy, who has two children, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, told the Herald the secret of her longevity.
"It's about being happy and having a nice family and good friends around you," she said.
