Good result was all that mattered
IT was an important victory for us over Cammell Laird on Saturday with all the teams around us winning too.
We can only do our bit and although the other results mean we haven't opened up a gap, the win kept us top at the time.
At 1-1 with 15 minutes to go, we knew we had to find a goal because it would be a big three points for us and we managed that.
In general, it was a scrappy game which was probably down to the pitch – in fact I was surprised the game went ahead.
There were a few problem patches here and there but one side of the pitch was absolutely bone hard!
There were people slipping and falling over – in hindsight it probably shouldn't have gone ahead but we are glad it did.
It probably spoiled the game for the fans and I heard a few people commenting that it was a pretty poor quality match but that was down to the pitch. It's still tight at the top and you can probably go down as far as sixth and maybe further to teams that still think they have a chance.
I've been looking at our run-in too, and in our last three games we play three promotion contenders – Mickleover, Rushall and Kidsgrove.
Kidsgrove have blown up a bit recently but they are a good team and I expect them to get it together.
Also we have to play Glapwell and Mickleover at home so it's really in our hands if we win those games, no-one would be able to stop us. But those other teams will be saying the same thing and, looking at it, I think it will go down to the wire during the last week or two of the season.
First off, though, it's Loughborough Dynamo away this weekend which is not easy – we drew 1-1 with them earlier this season. We were ahead and let them back into it.
It was great for us to have Danny Smith back this week as he's been struggling with a knee problem and we thought he would be having an operation.
But with Reece Styche leaving we were a bit light in terms of pace up front and I think Danny has postponed the op six weeks and he's going to play through the pain for us.
Finally, I'll round off with a reminder that the Supporters' Club is holding a quiz at the ground tomorrow (Friday) – so if you have a free night, get down there and have some fun!
