TOURIST attractions are gearing to provide families with activities of all types during the half-term holidays in Staffordshire.

From the rollercoasters at Alton Towers to the animal attractions at Drayton Manor Park and Zoo, there's plenty for all ages and interests.

Alton Towers will be opening its gates early and with discounts of up to 25 per cent on online bookings. While the park does not fully open, there are plenty of rides that are open, particularly those where visitors can shelter from the rain.

Then there is the wonderfully wacky waterpark which has hundreds of water features including the Master Blaster water rollercoaster.

Another destination for thrill-seekers could be at Peak Pursuits which offers a full programme of outdoor activities at its centres in Audley and Tittesworth Water, near Leek, including scrambling, archery and orienteering. Tickets are available at £30, or £120 for all five days.

Drayton Manor Theme Park provides an all-around family friendly destination for those living in the south the county, particularly given a two-for-one ticket offer to allow children to get into the park's Thomas Land running between February 10 and 20.

With Thomas The Tank Engine and all his friends, 12 wonderful themed rides, a spectacular indoor play area and tons of entertainment, families can be guaranteed a fun-packed day out. Many of the park's main attractions are also open including the 15-acre Drayton Manor Zoo, Ben 10: Ultimate Mission roller coaster and the 4D Cinema.

For those interested in trains in the north of the county, Churnet Valley Railway is hosting A Day Out With Thomas days throughout half-term. Not only will children get to see Thomas and many of his friends, ‘The Imagination Station’ will host magic shows, puppet workshops, activity tables and a special storytelling corner. Tickets are valid for all activities on the days (February 11, 12, 15, 18 and 19), as well as unlimited travel on the steam railway.
