Hot Cross laps it up to clinch first Midland crown for town
TAMWORTH AC runner Ellis Cross struck gold at the Midland Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park.
In doing so, Cross became Tamworth AC'S first-ever Midland Cross-Country Champion.
Cross was one of the favourites for the under-15 boys' title and came up against Charlie Davis, of Leamington, and Declan McManus from Worcester.
Battling hard throughout the race and fluctuating from third to first place throughout, Cross made a surge on the last lap, powering down the home straight to take the gold.
Luke Jones also competed in the under-15s boys' race, finishing in a strong 22nd.
In the under-13s girls' race, Carys Langham finished 51st in her first Midland Championship appearance.
Henry Hunt and Jonathan West ran in the boys' under-13s run, finishing 89th and 43rd respectively.
In the girls' under-15s race, Katie Wickett was 75th, 18 places higher than last year.
Tamworth AC's Track and Field stars were also in fine form when they competed at the Midland Indoor Championships at the NIA on Saturday.
Gavin Showell won the senior men's pole vault with a clearance of 3.90m.
Eldridge Phiri was second in his heat of the senior men's 60m in 7secs.
He went on to claim second in the semi-final behind Birchfield's Julian Thomas with a time of 6.97secs.
Phiri duly secured the silver medal after another fine run in the final, again finishing second to Midland champion Thomas with an identical time of 6.95secs.
Milly Kellyman won a bronze medal in the final of the women's under-20s 60m in a time of 8secs.
Olivia Woodward won the girls' under-15s shot with a throw of 10.07m.
She was also second in her heat of the girls' under-15s 200m.
Anthony Parkes claimed fifth place in the final of the men's under-20s 800m in 2.04.39mins.
Elliott Jones claimed fourth place in his heat of the men's under-17s 60m in 7.82secs.
He went on to claim third place in the men's under-17s shot putt with a throw of 10.03m.
James Woolley was sixth in the final of the boys' under-15s 60m in 7.85secs.
He went on to claim third in the boys' long jump with a 5.39m leap.
Jasmine Oliver was third in her heat of the women's under-17s 300m in a time of 48.51secs.
