MASTERCHEF judge Greg Wallace may have declined the chance to inspect a Tamworth group's creations – but that did not stop them rustling up a selection of culinary delights.

Tamworth Round Table celebrated president's night by invading the kitchens at Drayton Manor and created their own masterpieces.

President Chris Sheldon organised the event, which saw each participant have their own area, and The Grill Inn at Drayton Manor head chef Lee Holland was on hand to scrutinise the dishes produced.

Member Paul Bryant, said: "We'd tweeted Masterchef judge Greg Wallace on Twitter to see if he would come along and do the judging for us.

"He was busy, but we got some professionals from the catering world to come along and help us out.

"A big part of Round Table is trying something you perhaps wouldn't normally do and our current president, Chris Sheldon, is a big fan of finding those new things for us to do."

The food also fell under the assessment of assistant manager of The Grill Inn Richard McKay, who has owned clubs, bars and restaurants around the Midlands area.

Mr Bryant said: "Everyone worked hard in the kitchen stirring their sauces, sizzling their steaks, seasoning their soups and frying their fries.

"There was a worry at first that people would just turn up with a pot noodle and a kettle. However, we were pleasantly surprised when all the ingredients landed on the worktop.

"There was monkfish wrapped in prosciutto, mango and banana curry, steak and chips, and chicken and clam soup."

The judges eventually decided the chicken and chorizo gumbo produced by Mr Bryant was the winning dish, and he was crowned Tamworth Round Table Masterchef 2011.
