POLICE have cracked down on wanted criminals from Tamworth in a series of raids across the Trent Valley Division.

A total of 24 people were arrested in Operation Trojan across all the division's neighbourhood policing units – Tamworth, Lichfield, Burntwood, Uttoxeter and Burton.

Nineteen men and five women were arrested for crimes including assault, theft, fraud, handling stolen goods, drug possession and outstanding court warrants.

Detective Inspector Paul Downing, from Trent Valley division's Serious Acquisitive Crime Team, co-ordinated the operation

He said: "Around 40 officers took part in the operation which enabled us to make early arrests of suspects involved in ongoing criminal inquiries.

"The majority of those arrested were released on bail pending further inquiries or charged, while four went to court concerning outstanding warrants, two were cautioned and one was released without charge.

"The vast majority were from the Tamworth and Burton areas."

Neighbourhood police officers and detectives were involved in the initiative which is set to be repeated in the coming months.

Superintendent Selwyn Burton, from Trent Valley division, added: "This is a further example of our determination to protect and re-assure local communities.

"It's a reminder to criminals that we will be relentless in our efforts to bring them to justice."
