OLD Saltleians RFC First XV got off to a winning start to the season with a 10-try pre-season victory over local rivals Old Yardleians.

It didn't take long for Salts to get off the mark as second row John Munro caught the ball from the kick-off and released flanker Matt Pursall.

He shipped the ball on to centre Duncan Taylor, who made good ground before finding his centre partner Tom Lee, who outpaced the cover defence to score.

After a well worked try by Old Yards, Salts worked their way back up the field and were awarded a penalty, which was converted by fly-half James Mason.

This was followed by two tries in quick succession by Tom Lee and cousin Adam Lee to put the half-time score at 20-5.

Salts started the second-half well and Tom Lee completed his hat-trick.

The rest of the half was one-way traffic with Salts running in six further tries through John Munro, Anthony Evans, Luke Turner, Pursall (2) and Duncan Taylor to make the full time score 65-5.

Paul Lee and Ryan Mordue also made positive debuts for the club.
