Smashing ace!
It’s that time of year again – time for strawberries, champagne and tennis!
Yes, of course, it’s Wimbledon time again.

McEnroe - that ball was in!
So get your racket, don your headband and prepare for a fantastic new game out now on the Wii.
Electronic Arts have always released some of my favourite sporting titles having access to the official licences of a number of sports – their latest Grand Slam Tennis being no exception, writes Mark Eustace.
For those that thought Wii Sports Tennis was the best tennis game so far on the console, let me introduce you to this one – with one slight difference!
You don’t have to run around the living room, frantically waving your arms in the vein hope you have timed that return to perfection…
Grand Slam Tennis instead opts for intiuitive game play. You can either use just the Wii remote and focus on ball placement or plug in the Nunchuck to control you player’s movements as well as the shots.
At first I wasn’t sure how this would go down with actually playing the game, but I have to say after a while playing I loved it.
Sure I wasn’t getting the exercise I needed by running around the living room like a headless chicken, but I was playing some pretty incredible tennis.
But it’s the actual game that makes this a joy to play.
Because of the way the Wii remote is designed you actually feel like you’re holding a tennis racket as you swing – enabling you to play some pretty decent shots – even John McEnroe would be proud…you cannot be serious man!
As the name of the game suggests, this tennis title allows you to play in all four Grand Slams – from Roland Garros and the Australian Open to the US Open and of, course Wimbledon!
To make the game even more fun to play, EA has provided 23 of the greatest and most accomplished players in history to choose from, including John McEnroe, who is exclusively featured.
You can also play or play against Boris Becker, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Serena Williams to name a few – each with their own signature moves.
You can also create and design your own character to play though the Grand Slam tournaments if you fancy having a go at beating them all.
I love this game. For start, the cartoon-style graphics really set the whole ambience of the title off nicely, throw in the signature moves and the ability to play tennis and you have an excellent game that will keep you entertained for hours – or at least until the end of Wimbledon!
