Stars are set to shine in aid of cancer centre
A GLITTERING variety show to raise funds for the Sharon Fox Cancer Centre is taking place at Tamworth Assembly Rooms.
Local talent and special guests will join forces at the Corporation Street venue on October 24.
The afternoon will see a raffle boost funds for the new Lower Gungate centre, which is the brainchild of cancer sufferer and Herald columnist Sharon Fox.
Acts taking part in the show include singer and actress Jenny Barlow-Jennings, who is all set to play Robin Hood in the town's Christmas panto; and new singing sensation Megan Yates, aged 17, who recently won the overall Vocal Solo Award for the under 25s at the 2010 Tamworth Music Festival.
Joining them on stage is borough panto veteran and singer Glen Chevannes, who as well as hosting the show is co-producing it with Phoenix Dance Studio Principal, Georgina Gwynn.
Georgina's Fazeley-based Phoenix Dancers are also set to appear.
"This wonderful show promises to be an afternoon of entertainment not to be missed," explained Georgina and Glen.
"We really hope that local people, young and old alike, will come along to support us and enjoy a truly fabulous afternoon."
The show's headline act is much-loved West Midlands comedienne Lizzie Wiggins.
Star of Carlton TV's The Performers and known as The Duchess of Dudley, Lizzie makes a welcome return to the Assembly Rooms stage after her appearance in the sell-out Sharon Fox Variety Show held in April this year.
Lizzie, who has been making people laugh for 16 years, promises an afternoon of 'fun, frolics and frivolity' and will have theatre-goers in stitches with her hilarious antics, mesmerising routines and warm rapport.
Lizzie will be supported by ex-Hollyoaks heart-throb Tom Vaughan.
Tom, who played Spike in Hollyoaks, is an accomplished actor and singer who performs everything from Snow Patrol, Robbie Williams and The Killers to Coldplay and Kings Of Leon.
And making his debut in the town is UK magician Dave Jones.
David is a former national Champion of Magic and a past winner of the International Brotherhood of Magicians Close-up Magic competition – a feat also achieved by television stars Wayne Dobson and Paul Daniels.
He has appeared all over the U.S. and Europe and is also a member of the Inner Magic Circle (Gold Star).
The show will take place on October 24 from 2pm at the Assembly Rooms.
Tickets are £10 standard and £9 for children and senior citizens.
