Tamworth thwarted by late score after battling display
TAMWORTH RFC 14 DERBY 24
TAMWORTH produced a spirited performance against a very good Derby side.
Tamworth struck first when a loose kick was gathered in midfield by Danny Huntley.
He went on a piercing run into the Derby 22 before off-loading to Martin Dearne.
Although the flanker was held up just short of the line, support was quick to arrive and the ball was recycled to Danny Norton, who scored in the corner. Chris Lakin added a touchline conversion.
Derby scored three tries before and after the break before Tamworth hit back.
A line-out in the Derby 22 was superbly taken by Rich Morris and the forwards powered their way to the line with captain Matty Bond scoring. Lakin added another touchline conversion.
But in the dying moments, Derby crossed for the decisive final score.
Tommy Franks was named man of the match.
