Victory away at Witton was a big three points for us
WELL it's been a mixed week but at least we're finally back out there on the pitch after all the bad weather.
We played really well at Witton on Saturday, it was up there with our best performances of the season.
I got a goal too, as Birchy slipped me in and I scored with my left foot which I got a bit of stick for – I don't score many and even fewer with my left peg!
After the game, the gaffer Charlie touched on a 20-minute spell Witton had where they came back to level the scores at 1-1.
They threw everything at us but we weathered the storm and stood up to them – and went on to get the winner for a big three points.
After that, the lads were buzzing going into Tuesday night so it's tough to explain what happened.
We said at half-time, when it was 0-0, that it was just a case of sticking at it because it was a tight game and hopefully we would take our chance when it came.
But we did exactly the opposite – we came out and dropped right off. We didn't get going and you could see their goal coming. The loss makes it a big three points at home to Cammell Laird this Saturday.
On the plus side we went top on Saturday and we are still there – a few people have said it's a bit early to go top but I don't agree, if you get there, it's up to you to stay there.
Whenever a team goes top of this league they seem to get pegged back so we had talked about putting consecutive victories together to put some daylight between us and the pack but it didn't happen.
But we are still top with a home game to come so a win on Saturday and everything is rosy again.
I'll round off this week by wishing a fond farewell to Reece Styche who has gone to Forest Green in the Conference. The lads didn't know until after Saturday's game that he was leaving and we were sorry to see him go – his goals speak for themselves.
We'd like to see him back but on the other hand we hope he doesn't come back because we want to see him go on to bigger and better things.
