Battling villagers suffer narrow loss

WHITTINGTON produced a battling performance, but were edged out by Warley.
From the start, Whittington played well with early pressure against their West Midlands opponents .
However, Warley started to gain more possession of the ball and looked likely to trouble the scoreboard, but Whittington showed tight defence and held firm, with Peter Hughes clearing up well at full back.
On 20 minutes, Warley finally found a way past the Staffordshire side's defence as they drove from a scrum to get a converted try.
Whittington responded and won a penalty, which Nigel Brookes converted to make it 7-3 at the break.
Warley scored another converted try of the game early in the second half to move 11 points ahead.
Whittington responded well and Brookes converted a penalty with 15 minutes to go to make it 14-6.
Whittington battled to get back into the game in the latter stages, but were unable to make the breakthrough.
