ELDERLY people with their mobility scooters are being invited to a Tamworth supermarket – to take part in a scene being shot for a film.

Pension-age people who are "young at heart" are needed for the warm-hearted comedy called Three Stags.

The film is being shot by Tamworth filmmaker Mark Locke.

Filming began in June and has taken in several town centre locations, restaurants, streets, a pub and a race track.

The low-budget feature, with an estimated cost of £5,000, tells the story of three friends who are preparing for summer weddings – and three stag weekends.

The project was also awarded a £1,000 Arts Grant from Tamworth Borough Council.

Mark made a global name for himself with the £4 million movie Crust, which spawned a string of copy-cat films in Japan.

Mark told the Herald this week: "We're shooting what we hope will be a visually amazing and moving scene involving a convoy of young at heart pension-age people on mobility scooters, to be shot at a local supermarket car park.

"The idea is that the local people ride around on their scooters in a big Busby Berkeley-style formation."

He added: "People who own mobility scooters, or can borrow them, are obviously preferred but we should be getting hold of some more for people to use too, so they don't necessarily have to own them.

"People could volunteer their grans and grandads too."

The filming should take an hour or two on a Sunday, around 4pm, once the supermarket car park clears.

Filming could take place on either September 19 or 26.
