TAMWORTH schoolchildren are dedicating a day to helping youngsters around the world less fortunate than themselves.

William MacGregor Primary School, in Basin Lane, is holding a country and western themed dressing up day tomorrow (Friday, February 3), and selling toys and cakes to raise funds for UNICEF's "Day for Change".

Deputy headteacher Sarah Simnett said: "Play and sport are not only a fundamental right for children, but also vital elements in the health, happiness and wellbeing of children and young people.

"UNICEF is using sport as an effective tool to help achieve goals in health, education, gender equality, HIV and AIDS, child protection and child development."

UNICEF is the world's leading organisation working for children and their rights.
