THE FUTURE of Daw Mill Colliery remains uncertain and talks are ongoing after an announcement at the end of last year that the Furnace End 'superpit' could close.

UK Coal confirmed that shutting the mine was one of the options being considered as part of a 'survival plan'.

The pit's 800 miners were advised by letter that there was to be a review of the site.

This week a UK Coal spokesman said that a decision had still not been made about the under-performing pit which has employed thousands of Tamworth and North Warwickshire men since 1965.
