What's Staffordshire's favourite read?

Staffordshire's Favourite Read is the county's grand finale to the National Year of Reading and the aim of the campaign is simple – to get people in Staffordshire to vote for their favourite book so that the resulting list can inspire future readers.
Voting is open until midnight on December 31 and anyone in Staffordshire can take part at the following voting stations:
• Online at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/bestbook;
• At any library or mobile library in Staffordshire;
• At Children's Centres in Staffordshire Moorlands, East Staffordshire, Stafford, Cannock Chase, Glascote and Newcastle; or
• At Waterstone's stores in Stafford and Burton.
Everyone who votes will be entered into a free prize draw with a top prize which includes Waterstone's vouchers and a signed copy of R J Ellory's new book, A Simple Act of Violence.
County councillor and cabinet support member for cultural services, Maureen Compton, said: "There are some books that you just can't put down, they capture your imagination and you find the hours have disappeared in what seems like a few minutes.
"If you've ever come across a book like this, vote for it as part of Staffordshire's Favourite Read so that other people in Staffordshire can discover it."
R J Ellory also encouraged people to vote: "I want to lend my wholehearted support to the Staffordshire's Favourite Read Campaign. As far as I am concerned, anything that contributes directly or indirectly to more people reading has my vote."
He continues: "Anything that helps people discover the magic of reading has to be given all the attention it deserves, and the Staffordshire Favourite Reads Campaign is doing exactly that. If you have a favourite book, then make sure you vote and make someone else as much of a book fan as yourself."
Staffordshire's Favourite Read will be announced World Book Day, March 5, 2009, and the winner of the prize draw will be announced early in the New Year.
Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan have done wonders for some authors' sales with their TV book club selections. But what are the favourites among Staffordshire's readers?
