A spectacular line-up of seasonal events are set to mark Christmas in style.

Double gold medal-winning Beijing Paralympics star Eleanor Simmonds will be switching on the lights at 6.30pm, and the big switch-on will be followed by a performance by Britain's Got Talent finalists Signature at 7.15pm.

The official switch-on of Walsall Rotary Club's tree of light at the Saddlers Shopping Centre, in Park Street, will also take place at 5pm that day.

Walsall Manor Hospital will also be holding Christmas celebration on November 27 with performances by young singers from Whitehall Primary School at 6pm.

The following day, festivities will be held in Willenhall, with a choir providing music and dance performances from the Classic Academy of Dance. All of Willenhall's events will take place in Market Place from 5pm until 7.30pm.

Christmas celebrations will be held at Aldridge Shopping Centre on Friday, December 5, from 3.30pm to 7pm and in Bloxwich a snow machine will wow crowds in Market Square on Saturday, December 6 from 12noon until 4pm.

A wide range of events will also be held that day in Brownhills just off the High Street.

Darlaston will also mark the festive season with puppet performances in King Street at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm on Friday, December 12.

Councillor Bill Madeley, chairman of Darlaston Town Centre Partnership's events committee, said: "There will be a wonderful atmosphere and the puppets in particular will prove a great attraction."

Councillor Adrian Andrew, deputy leader of Walsall Council, said: "Walsall and its district centres are doing us proud this Christmas with some great events that will appeal to all ages and tastes."
