Effects of Tamworth schools changes will be far-reaching
Friday, November 21, 2008, 12:00
What has happened to walking to school or keeping cars off roads at school times? What about increased costs to parents to get their child to the new school?
How are existing over-populated high schools going to cope with the intake of pupils from QEMS? How will this affect the teaching and learning of our children? What will happen to the specialist school status for sixth form education?
Have Government proposals to raise school leaving age been taken into account for sixth forms? Will transportation be laid on for those who live over three miles away from sixth form or school?
Will pupils cope with the long day from 8.30am to 5pm, Saturday schooling and summer holiday schooling?
Are pupils and parents aware that academies cherry-pick to ensure their standards, NO SEN, NO free school meal families. Pupils who break the contract signed by them and parents are expelled. Academies do not fall under the Education Act or Freedom of Information Act and set their own curriculum.
QEMS already suffers immense traffic – if every pupil in Tamworth has no option but attend QEMS how will the traffic be managed? Or will Sutton Coldfield College – the next nearest A level college – be flooded with pupils who do not wish to attend the academy?
