Illuminating insight into the origin of the mysterious flying orbs

REGARDING the strange orbs in the sky.

I suggest that these were Chinese lanterns and there is a website which gives a good rundown on them.

It is interesting to note that one evening recently three such lanterns slowly drifted over Wilnecote in the general area of the M42 at a height sufficient that, with even a reasonable zoom lens, the images were similar to that published.

However, with more powerful binoculars it was possible to glean enough detail to confirm their make-up and after about 15 minutes the candles providing the heated air that kept them aloft and very visible, faded and went out, after which they were seen to drop.
