Fun day for cash to fix vandal damage to Stonydelph church

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 12:00

VANDALS have targeted a church in Stonydelph, leaving its roof in desperate need of repair.

Cash is urgently needed to fix St Martin's Church roof in Ellerbeck as wintery weather conditions could be making its condition even worse, despite the building being relatively modern.

The place of worship also needs its central heating system fixed.

The plight of the church means it will be the beneficiary of a fundraising day this Saturday (November 22) with pool, table tennis and football tournaments.

East Area street wardens Jane Heath and James Vanstone have had a helping hand in organising stalls for the family event.

James said: "So far we have collected tins of food, bottles of wine, soft drinks and a number of toiletries."

They have asked Tamworth Borough Council staff to donate prizes for the Tombola, lucky dip and other fun and games.

"We really appreciate the gifts which have already been donated, as it is for such a good cause," James continued.

"The church is very active in the community and we want to offer them as much support as possible. Any one is welcome to come along and enjoy the day, and raise money all for a good cause."

The fun day in aid of St Martin's Church roof runs from 10am-4pm, all are welcome.
