A TAMWORTH primary school has received a good report following a visit from G overnment inspectors.

Moorgate Community Primary School was inspected over two days in March.

Headteacher Gina McKay said: "We are over the moon with the report.

"Everyone worked very hard and we felt what we had done was in the right direction."

The school was previously put into special measures for two terms for under performance following an inspection in 2006.

But this time the school received grade 2, with grade 1 the highest, for its overall effectiveness.

"Moorgate Community Primary is a good school," the report says.

"Most parents endorse this and have great confidence in the school and its headteacher."

It added: "Pupils are right to be proud of their school.

"They confirm that they are very happy and well cared for."

Pupils learning and development was also found to be good with all children being guided 'rigorously' throughout the school.

Teaching was also commended by inspectors.

"Teachers have very secure subject knowledge and give clear explanations," the report added.

"Teachers and support staff work well together to meet pupils' specific needs. This good teaching leads to good learning."

Inspectors said that learning "occasionally" slowed when teachers did not plan well enough and that in some lessons pupils were not challenged as much as they should be.

The report concluded: "This is a caring school with a strong community ethos.

"Leadership and management are good and steadily improving.

"Staff are trusted, respected and approachable."

Lead inspector Michael Merchant added that the school should also work to improve attendance and to ensure no pupils had their learning disrupted by taking holidays during term-time.
