Friday, October 10, 2008, 12:10

EXCLUSIVE: A Tamworth man who was viciously assaulted in his own home has opened up to the Herald about his attack.

"It was like Beirut," explained victim Paul Sportelli.

"There was blood everywhere. One of my neighbours actually said they thought someone had been killed.

"The blood was all over the carpet and up the stairs. It was horrendous."

The 47-year-old had returned to his Scammerton home from a night out in the town. At around 1pm he heard a knock at the door.

"I went to downstairs and opened the door," he explained. "The next thing I know someone was running out from behind the conifer.

"He hit me on the side of my head. I remember seeing blood  splatter on the door."
