Co-op set for its next round of donations to good causes
A HOST of organisations are set to benefit from the next round of cash dividends from the Tamworth Co-operative Society.
The town'sdepartment store and convenience stores have each nominated a different cause for 2012. It is expected that more than £10,000 will be handed out.
This year groups include a service that re-homes stray dogs, a support group for stroke sufferers and their carers, an environmental volunteer initiative and school projects.
Bosses say the Community Dividend Fund has being going from strength to strength since it was first launched two years ago and that it was a "significant boost" for local organisations.
In the scheme, shoppers donate the dividends they have earned to the group supported by their local branch.
Chief executive Julian Coles said the success of the scheme was down to the generosity of shoppers who are a 'credit to the town'.
"We have been amazed by the number of our customers who have been prepared to divert the dividends they have earned to the causes supported by their local Co-op branches," he said.
"This is the third time that we have compiled a list of organisations that shoppers can support.
"It is becoming apparent that the economic situation has not dampened Tamworth people's generosity in any way.
"Times might well be difficult, but community spirit is alive and well in this area. I can't thank our customers enough for what they have done."
Mr Coles is now urging shoppers to show the same level of support during 2012.
"All people need to do to support this scheme is inform the cashier of their wish. It is so easy to do and yet it can make a huge difference to local people's lives," he said.
The organisations to be supported are:
Department Store Tamworth – stroke patients and their carers group
Tamworth Supermarket – SPIN (Special People in Need)
Amington convenience store – Amington Community Fete Committee
Bolehall convenience store – Friends of Warwickshire Moor
Dordon convenience store – North Warwickshire Retired Miners Leisure Club
Glascote convenience store – Dun-Roamin Rehoming
Kingsbury convenience store – Kingsbury Methodist Outreach Group
Polesworth convenience store – 1200 (Polesworth) Squadron (Air Training Corps)
Wood End convenience store – Wood End School
Whittington convenience store – Whittington Community Primary School

“And were Tony Blair still P.M. I would be saying the same about him, as I would about Karl Marx or Vladimir Ulyanov Lenin were they incumbent millionaire P.M. presiding over an economic and socially unjust and unfair argentocracy.
Trying to dismiss a comment or opinion using an idiomatic expression is not only facile but the sort of inane comment one would expect to read in the Sun; anybody with an iota of intelligence will realise that the current situation is indefensible and the only way it can be defended is by attacking other administrations that are or were equally unjust.”

“and of course we had no charuty under Labour and no million pound bonuses under Labour and no knighthood for Fred "the shred" Goodwin under Labour
Oh sorry, yes we did have all three under Labour and both Blair and Mandleson made millions on the back of their political career in the Labour Party”

“What a wonderful country we live in; million pound bonuses for some, reliance on charity and the goodwill of others for the rest.
Thanks, David Cameron, multi-millionaire extraordinaire!”
